Ageless Beauty for Beauty Night

On July 6th, LuvNGrace and BeautyINK offered a welcome twist on an evening of fashion - one dedicated to women .  I want to share the PR blurb as I think it says it all so much better than I could.  Honestly, what more could I add to this but an AMEN!

"Tonight we are celebrating the elegant, mature, beautiful section of women in
society. Many of the fabulous ladies walking the runway tonight are ex-models,
mothers, a grandmother & socialites of Vancouver. We are here to let everyone
know that beauty, style and fashion is not just for the young. The so-called 'older'
generation is an often overlooked demographic that still loves to dress-up, go
             out and celebrate life."

A classy evening requires a elegant venue and the Waterfall Building definitely fit the bill.  It is offers a large open, airy gallery area full of natural light with a super high ceiling and an angled glass wall running from top to bottom on the west. Art always adds decadence to a venue and we were fortunate to have the work of 2 artists on display. The first were large, contemporary canvases by by Miriam Aroeste. Across the room tucked along the all glass feature wall were several interesting sculptures which I am still trying to get the artist's credits for.

With summer in full swing, we saw a changing of the guards. Everyone was welcomed at the door by new hostess Tania GR. Spinning a solid set of tunes all evening was producer Christopher Mark Steffler. In a side room, Waterfall Building Owner and Producer Joseph McKinnon had set up a great bar which, no surprise, was the first stop for most as they arrived. Kudos to Rachel Ryall and Zoey who filled our drink orders efficiently and with a friendly smile.

Pre-fashion show, attendees could peruse a table of striking jewellery by Diosa Couture "...designed to bring out the goddess within."  The designer's pieces feature exotic South American semi-precious stones, 24k plated gold, and cultured pearls. We also had the chance to bid on silent auction items in support of Caroline MacGillivray's incredible Beauty Night Society. Amazingly, I won the basket from Pink Thai Restaurant - one of my favourite eating venues. Looking around the room were many faces I recognized. Jim Michaels (Supernatural), Ioulia Reynolds ( Real Housewives of Vancouver), Shannon Thompson (Aremac Surveillance), Keiko Boxall (Studio Keikowho organized the fashion show portion of the evening, photographer Eugenio Flores, Edward Quan (Style Drama)Paul K Holmes (Int'l Perfume Foundation - Brussels) and Randi Winter (Passionate Travel).

Leading us through the evening was the lovely Mandy Ross sporting an endless smile and a stunning, off the shoulder, bright red Bow-embellished jersey dress by Drama Queen. First up was a strong vocal performance by RandB/Soul/Pop singer Sarah K who also offered a second set later in the evening. With such a social event, I think she made a great choice to perform some of the songs walking down the runway where she could interact personally with the crowd. And I would be remiss unless I mentioned how great that fitted, sparkling blue dress looked on her.

Then it was time to take our seats as the show was about to begin. In honour of this event, eight fabulous women stepped onto the runway sporting hair by Chris Funk and make-up by Brittany Beyer.  They were Vancouver's own Christi La Liberté , Chantal Benz, Jacqueline Ryan, Monika Bartnik-Boughey, Roberta Cantelon, Taaja Kayler  and Iryna Getman. First came the Drama Queen Collection by artist and designer Anastacia - a boutique-style clothing line specializing in couture for women of all ages who possess sophisticated taste and appreciate quality. This designer divided her show into 2 segments with a short break in between. One offered cleaner, more classic silhouettes using solid colours, colour blocking and a few quieter textures.  The other showcased softer silhouettes with brightly coloured graphic prints.

The second designer this evening was Lindsay Walsh of standing armed. This brand is a melding of sophistication and ease - classic, timeless, elegant pieces for the modern woman. I am a huge fan and have written on her several times. Two articles were for this website - Five New Designers to Watch and standing armed-Lindsay Walsh.  On the runway we saw a dresses, separates and jumpsuits from her Spring/Summer 2013.  Black provided the foundation for her looks this evening with a smaller number of lighter shades offering sparks of interest. Several unusual, textural fabrics from Brunei were also strategically featured. Clean lines and understated silhouettes contrasted with a few very sexy, numbers including one with a deep plunging back kept our eyes on the runway.

As always, an evening like this could not be possible with a great group of sponsors. Thanks to The Waterfall Building, Drama Queen, Diosa Couture, Bella Garnet Beauty Salon, Mozt, Red Carpet Walk, Black VelvetCollection, Henna, Hush Magazine, Skin by Lisa Marie and SNAP DTV.
