Vancouver Fashion Week SS22 - Interview With Designer Priyanka Chopra of Priyanka Signature Couture (US)

Please share a bit about your journey to choose a career in fashion? Where did you choose to study or, if self taught, how did you gain your skills?

It all started 15 years ago, when I decided to turn my passion into my profession. I hail from Mumbai, India, where I have spent the majority of my adult life learning about design aesthetics and fashion. My passion for fashion began at a very young age, when I would head to the tailor in those days and create showstopper outfits out of scraps. My designs speak of myself and my vision. They are free flowing, easily convertible from casual to formal and carry a sense of "Indian-ness" in them.
I have done Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA)

What inspired you to launch your own label? What has been your highest moment since launching your line?

As a stylist and a designer, I love seeing my tribe, the women who adorn my pieces to feel comfortable and true to who they are. My goal to imbibe a sense of confidence in the women that adorn my pieces.

How would you describe your brand? What is the aesthetic? Who is the customer you design for?

A blend of all culture. Having grown up in different cultures, I accept and embrace ethnic blends. My designs are crafted from my roots in India, they are wearable by the modern woman. Women of all age groups are invited to embrace the style regardless of their backgrounds.

Can you share something about the Collection you'll be showing casing at Vancouver Fashion Week SS22? What was the inspiration? What fabrics and palette did you use?

The name of my collection is BE-Nari 22 empowering women! The fabrics include a blend of pure Banarsi Silk ,Georgette, Crepe, Chiffon, Satin, Suede and are embellished with Zardosi embroidery with Pearl.

My Inspiration - Just the look of the fabric with a touch of Banaras is so blissful; the colors and the exquisite weaving pattern give a feel of the place; a sense of belonging, a feeling of pride in our heritage. I want everyone to know our beautiful culture and try my pure Banarsi woven garments, so created them with a twist so all cultured people can wear them .

Do you have a favorite look in this collection? Is there one piece that is a must have piece?

My favourite is the bridal look - a Banarsi Lehnga with Bridal jewelry.
