Vancouver Fashion Week SS22 With Designer Samantha Reichert of Maison du Mardi (Canada)

Please share a bit about your journey to choose a career in fashion? Where did you choose to study or, if self taught, how did you gain your skills?

I’ve always loved fashion even from an early age! I started sewing small projects by hand as a child and progressed from there, always growing and learning new sewing techniques.

It wasn’t until 2017 when I finally decided to attend a fashion program to help further my skills and launch my own label. I graduated from Olds College with an Apparel Tech degree in 2019, and from there started to create my first line. However due to the Covid pandemic, there has been some delays in being able to show my collection, so I’m very excited to finally be able to attend VFW’s upcoming SS22 show!

What inspired you to launch your own label? What has been your highest moment since launching your line?

My main inspiration for launching my label simply put is my love for designing. I’m so passionate about creating and designing it’s a part of who I am as a person, and integrated into my daily life.

My highest point so far is being able to show my collection at VFW this upcoming weekend, I’m extremely excited about it and look forward to any and all opportunities that may come about in the near future!

How would you describe your brand? What is the aesthetic? Who is the customer you design for?

Some key words I use to describe my brand is fun, fresh, subtle yet flirty. I’m also very focused on future production of my designs, and producing them in a sustainable and ethical way. I’m not looking to become another one of the many fast fashion labels already out there. And so a lot of time and research has gone into finding the best manufacturers of my garments.

I want my clients to feel comfortable and confident in my designs, as a woman with curves I know how the right garments can make you feel confident, and so I want all women of all shapes, sizes, and age to feel like a million dollars in my designs. I want my designs to empower women and make them feel like they can be the best version of themselves!

Can you share something about the Collection you'll be showing casing at Vancouver Fashion Week SS 2? What was the inspiration? What fabrics and palette did you use?

I titled my upcoming collection “Canadiana” because I’m very proud to be a Canadian designer, and I love my country! I really got inspired by our beautiful landscape, there’s so much unfiltered beauty all around us and so I used that as my canvas for this collection.

I chose some luxurious fabrics for this collection, a mixture of woven and knits along with some fun prints, a mixture of wool blends, Cotton blends and more. As for the Color palette, I chose white to represent the crisp white snow that we as Canadians are very familiar with, black to represent the starry black night sky’s that you can see when you get out of the city limits, and lastly gold to represent the golden fields of the prairies.

Do you have a favourite look in this collection? Is there one piece that is a must have piece?

It’s really hard to pick one look, but I just love how the pinafore skirt turned out, I think it’s super fun and flirty with the matching cold shoulder crop top. I definitely think this is a must have piece!

Where can readers find your garments? How can they purchase them?

Currently, because my brand is so new I’m taking custom orders, similar to a couture houses in Europe. However I hope to move into production in the near future so that more people can enjoy my designs.

Maison Du Mardi will be showing on the runway at VFW SS22 on Saturday, October 23rd at 5:50 p.m. Tix HERE!
