Review -

I have read quite a few books on the issue of procrastination, a problem I have struggled with my whole life. Many have included what current research shows in terms of creating new, more positive habits, and each has offered me a piece of the puzzle.

The Now Habit takes a slightly different look at this issue - a kindler, gentler one.  After all the heavier books where I did learn a lot, this book was the icing on the cake.  It changed my view of procrastination. "We are taught that procrastination is the problem, rather than a symptom of other problems...Procrastination is a coping habit...Procrastination has been learned, and it can be unlearned." The weight just fell off my shoulders reading those three sentences.

I have always been told procrastination was an innate character flaw I had to fight to correct.  Instead I am now starting to explore how I came to use it as a coping mechanism, and how I can change that pattern. I had already made great inroads this last year by creating new, successful habits that influenced my view of what I was capable of. Now I have the key to unlocking the why working behind the scenes undermine me.

What I am sharing is only one small piece of what is offered, but it was the piece that was most profound for me. The Now Habit is designed not as a scientific exploration, but as a guide to create change, written in language that is easy to understand, and punctuated with real life stories from his work with clients.
