Cooking a sumptuous meal is an act of love. An act of grace. An art and passion Gina inherits from her grandfather —a French chef felled by a robber’s bullet.

Synopsis -

Raised in a marginal neighborhood, Gina’s keen to taste life in the world where she’s been chosen to cook. A scintillating world of wealth and privilege, great food, new challenges and fascinating friends. But beneath this new world, unexpected danger lurks. Gina’s passion for cooking is all she has to help her navigate it.

Amidst her culinary adventures, she befriends the pastry chef, worldly loyal Marcia. She falls in love in different ways with two very different men. Leon, a playboy, is rich, charming, and carefree but honest, complicated, and devoted to his legacy.

Serious and idealistic Brent is a lawyer turned brooding detective. Haunted by the many violent crimes he has worked on, he prefers to be alone.

Can the lessons Gina learned about cooking and life help her survive and thrive in this other world of privilege, pleasure, and menace?

Review -

Book 4 in the Journey's Between Two Worlds strays a tiny bit from the other books I have read so far. While we still have someone with a diverse ethnic background, there isn't the same disconnect, the same depth of feeling without roots. In this book Journey explores how one views their work and how they view their relationships.

There are five characters who fill out this plot. Gina, a budding and very talented chef working in a top restaurant who hopes one day to break out on her own and fulfill her grandfather's destiny. He was a talented chef as well, who was killed in his shop by an intruder.  Then we have two love interests that Marcia is struggling to balance - Leon and Brent. One rich, one not. What is important?  Money, future lifestyle, attraction, love?  Does love even stand the test of time?

Last of all are two girlfriends thrown in the mix. You'll have to read to find out how they fit into the author's twisted plot where troubles threaten not only Gina's peace of mind, but her life, as she reaches for her dream of opening her own restaurant.

An interesting offering in this series focused on relationships, work, family and passion.

She has one ungranted wish: To live in Paris where art is everywhere and people have honed aimless roaming to an art form. She visits and stays a few months when she can.
