For 25 years, LaSalle College Vancouver (LCV) has been nurturing the dreams of students from around the world and feeding British Columbia's creative industry growth. Whether you're savoring a meal from a Michelin star's restaurant, watching a movie that was filmed on Vancouver's seawall, or being blown away at Vancouver Fashion Week the fingerprints of LCV's alumni are indelibly present.

Every fashion season, five fashion design students from our program are carefully chosen to be a part of VFW, an event that unites industry professionals and designers for a week of inspiration. This season, we take immense pride in showcasing Kimia Galili, Renda Rico, Frida Guzman, Amaranta Gonzalez, and Duaa Yamani, on the runway.​⁠

Join us to celebrate fifteen years of collaboration between Vancouver Fashion Week and LaSalle College Vancouver.

Kimia Ghalili

Kimia is a visionary fashion designer from Iran with a passion for challenging societal norms through her designs. Her rebellious spirit and determination to challenge the norms of the fashion industry have fueled her growth, leading to innovative designs that liberate individuals from societal expectations. With a goal to inspire uniqueness and self-expression, Kimia’s distinctive style and dedication aim to redefine the boundaries of fashion and empower individuals to embrace their true selves.

Collection: Sayah

The concept is rooted in the vision of embracing fluidity and blurring the lines of conventional fashion. These designs transcend traditional gender boundaries, ushering in a new era of gender-inclusive fashion. Effortlessly infusing femininity into men’s clothing, they showcase elegance and sensitivity while empowering individuals to express their true identities with confidence.

Renda Rico

Hailing from Inner Mongolia, China, Renda Rico possesses an innate passion for designing objects, visuals, and sounds that envelop the world around them. The integration of new materials and technologies consistently holds a pivotal role in Renda’s creative journey, evoking a sense of excitement. Over recent years, valuable knowledge has been acquired through collaborations with design companies and factories, playing a pivotal role in the transformation of their ideas into tangible products.

Collection: New Era
 
His collection embodies a visionary perspective for future explorers and pioneers who may potentially be the first humans or semi-humans to venture beyond Earth, constructing and surviving on distant planets. This collection encapsulates the spirit of those who carry the dream of expanding human horizons, reminiscent of explorers setting foot on alien terrain. As creators, they embrace new realms, engage with diverse individuals, and uncover fresh materials and innovative garment-making techniques, boldly stepping into a promising “New Era” regardless of success or setbacks.”

Frida Guzman Perez

Frida, a 21-year-old fashion student, found her passion for haute couture shortly before completing high school. Opting for the creative path as a means of self-expression, Frida has honed a unique style characterized by a fusion of elegance, innovation, and storytelling. Her aspirations are set on leaving a lasting mark on the fashion industry, recognizing the transformative potential of fashion to inspire change.

Collection: the last breath

In her collection, inspired by the iconic Alexander McQueen, Frida delves into the designer’s personal struggles, which included the loss of his mother, substance abuse, and his diagnosis of mixed anxiety and depressive disorder—an affliction that ultimately contributed to McQueen’s tragic suicide. Her collection serves as a conscious exploration of the symptoms of depression, aiming to shed light on mental health issues within the fashion industry while paying tribute to McQueen’s groundbreaking work.

Amaranta Gonzalez

Originally from Ecuador and having lived in Costa Rica and Paraguay, draws inspiration from the rich diverse cultures and social attitudes encountered in her travels. This creative spark accompanied her when she relocated to Canada, igniting her passion for design from an early age and setting her on an exhilarating lifelong journey. In her design philosophy, Amaranta firmly believes that aesthetics must coexist with functionality. Her work centers on the principles of simplicity, clarity, and innovation, all with the goal of crafting designs that prioritize intuition and user-centricity.

Collection: Nicoba
 
Nicoba takes inspiration from the intricate anatomy of bird wings, seamlessly merging bone structure with the delicacy of lightweight feathers to craft exquisite couture garments. The collection embodies the essence of precise cuts, representing a harmonious fusion of fashion and architecture, radiating qualities of lightness, elegance, and sophistication. Drawing from the vibrant hues of the Nicobar pigeon, “Nicoba” weaves elements of volume, pleating, structural finesse, and meticulous craftsmanship, redefining the art of wearable fashion.

Dua Yamani

Dua is a fashion designer who is passionate about infusing Middle Eastern elegance into Western simplicity and modernity, offering design excellence and product ingenuity through artistic visual interpretation and textile manipulations.

Collection: Sculptura
 
In her collection, Dua drew inspiration from the precision and meticulous attention to detail found in Middle Eastern techniques. She skillfully merged these influences with a Canadian perspective, infusing elements of fine art into the mix. The result is a collection of functional yet artful pieces, where carefully curated silhouettes derive inspiration from modern art, architectural elements, and sculptural forms.
