Poetry - Connected Under the Stars

Ocean, Stars, Sky & You by Melissa Hui Wang

Connected Under the Stars
by Marilyn R. Wilson

In this time of anger and conflict.
Rife with shootings and riots.
Where divisions are promoted.
And the idea of diversity is feared.
There is a truth that rises up.
A revelation that is stronger than evil.
It's time to shout it from the rooftops.
We are all connected under the stars.

Our feet are rooted in the same earth.
Our lungs are filled with the same air.
We dip our feet in the same salty water
Of great oceans that lap against all lands.
Our eyes watch the same sun rise and set.
And gaze upwards at the same night sky.
We are all connected under the stars.

We all have hearts that beat in our chest.
Red blood that courses through our veins.
Bodies fashioned from the same skin and bones.
Voices that emerge from the same vocal cords.
We clap, we smile, we leap, we embrace,
We dream, we grieve, we ponder, we create.
Every journey is from birth to death.
We are all connected under the stars.

Diversity is a joy and a strength,
But only an additional note to savor.
Our small differences are simply decorations.
They merely add interest to our journey.
Our core being is created from the same mold.
Time to release fear. Time to embrace community.
Time to acknowledge our oneness.
We are all connected under the stars.
