SuGolden Design is a high end fashion brand founded by Sogol and Susan; with Sogol as designer and creative director of the brand. Our pieces take cues from the latest fashion trends and are carefully designed and manufactured locally in Vancouver.

Sogol is a fashion designer who graduated from the Fashion Design program in Montréal. Currently, she resides and works in Vancouver as the owner, designer, and creative director of SuGolden Design clothing line. While her initial focus was on high-end womenswear collections, her recent passion has shifted towards menswear apparel as well. Her latest creations include haute couture designs for both women and men, and her goal is not only to expand her creativity and passion throughout Canada but also across the US and Europe in the future.

At the core of SuGolden is our mission to enhance the sense of individuality and empowerment in women and men, with a touch of edginess and uniqueness to make them stand out. Our upcoming collection, set to grace the VFW runway, represents our latest fusion of Haute Couture and Streetwear. Inspired by our passion for blending the worlds of streetstyle swag and Haute Couture glam, the collection is aptly named "Gala First, Streets After." It captures the essence of our muse transitioning from a glamorous red carpet event to hitting the streets for a swag-filled after-party in the winter.

The focal point of this collection lies in the use of sparkly sheer fabrics, bold layered shapes, and the clash of tight versus oversized silhouettes. Each piece is a labor of love, meticulously designed and handmade by us. Interview -

Please share a bit about your journey to embrace fashion design as a career.

I am actually coming from engineering background, I studied chemical engineering in my hometown, Tehran, Iran and I successfully got my bachelor’s degree. However, deep down, I always knew this is not my purpose and my passion is somewhere else, which was the fashion industry, and anything related to art and expressing myself. So I took a leap of faith, I left my engineering job in Iran, applied for a fashion school in Montreal, and moved to Canada to pursue my passion and dream.

How did you learn your skills?

I studied fashion design program at College Lasalle Montreal; I had zero knowledge of how to sew, make pattern or even sketch. I only knew that I have a good eye for mixing and matching clothes, and I’ve been known for being stylish and fashionable.

So, going to fashion school was crucial for me to learn all the basic skills and also get to know the fashion industry in Canada better. I was a newcomer immigrant, so I needed that to link with likeminded people and grow my network and connections.

Who are you as a designer? Aesthetic? Customer? Brand?

My aesthetic as a designer is more towards Avante Garde, bold shapes, colors and prints, especially if I’m designing for a fashion show, I would definitely go for more volume and Couture looks. On the other hand, my clothing brand for my customers is more subtle and ready to wear everyday wear styles, to match with the client’s aesthetic and lifestyle, especially in Vancouver that majority of people are more interested in subtle and elegant looks that trendy and fashion forward styles.

What comes easiest for you as a designer? What is hardest?

The easiest is to brainstorm, get inspired, and come up with sketches. The hardest is to figure out how to bring those visions and sketches into life and choosing the right fabric for the styles.

Where do you find inspiration for new collections? How important is colour to your design process?

SuGolden-Design-Fashions
My inspiration usually come from latest trends in fashion world, my surroundings and events going on in the world, and most importantly my mindset and my style during that time. That is to say, I used to have lots of bold colors in my designs for previous collections; however, this time I am only using black, white and beige, and that’s only because these colors speak to me more this time and currently, my mindset is more into darker and gothic vibes.

Readers would love to know more about the collection you will be showing at Vancouver Fashion Week FW24.

This upcoming collection represents my latest fusion of Haute Couture and Streetwear, for both womenswear and menswear. Inspired by my passion for blending the worlds of streetstyle swag and Haute Couture glam, the collection is aptly named "Gala First, Streets After." It captures the essence of my muse transitioning from a glamorous red-carpet event to hitting the streets for a swag-filled after-party in the winter.

The focal point of this collection lies in the use of sparkly sheer fabrics mixed with nylon outerwear fabrics, bold layered shapes, and the clash of tight versus oversized silhouettes. Each piece is a labor of love, meticulously designed and handmade by me.

Do you have a favorite look in this collection?

I have two favourite looks which are same fabrics used for womenswear and menswear and they will be walking right after each other on the runway.

Where can readers purchase your designs?

So, readers can come by my boutique and shop in person while I am there to help them with styling or taking custom design orders; or they can simply purchase them on my website and have it shipped to them.
