In Perfect Balance
by Marilyn R. Wilson

The walls were closing in.
Day in, day out, day in, day out.
Time stood excruciatingly still
Stirred only my daily stroll
Or my bodily need for sustenance.
Suffocating ennui overwhelmed.

Cocooning kept me safe.
Away from the crowd.
Away from stress and judgement
Away from having to force my
Beautiful racing mind to slow
To the speed of those around me.

Boredom - my great motivator -
Arrived to kick me in the ass.
My racing mind, desperate for excitement
Overcame my desire for safety and calm.
Out came all the bobbles and bits.
Needed adornment to venture forth.

With my features properly accented,
Skin tones smoothed to perfection,
Body wrapped in garments that complimented,
Feet encased in bohemian sandals,
Earrings dangling and bracelet on,
I was properly prepared to leave my nest.

Bright sunlight warmed my soul.
A wonderful tapas café beckoned me in.
Riotous color and rhythmic salsa beats.
A trifecta of pride brunch, bingo and drag
Provided the shot of adrenalin I craved.
All my senses expanded outward in joy.

Each tapa plate was presented beautifully.
Each bite savored slowly and sensually.
The lively music, comedic bingo emceeing,
And crazy good drag performances hit home.
My heart opened wide and soaked it all in
This change was just what I needed.

It is good to cocoon immersed in calm.
There is nothing wrong pulling inward
Or sinking deep into beautiful silence.
But magical experiences nurture as well.
Calm, magic, calm, magic.
Circling together in perfect balance.
