Review -
It is interesting how ideas spread. Someone drops an idea and then it slowly seeps out into the world. In 2019, a poet named Cassie Phillips wrote a poem titled Let Them. While not mentioned in this book, the poem speaks to the same theme. You cannot change what others think, say or do most of the time. What you can do is decide to let them. This simple act frees you from allowing your mind and actions to be governed by what others think. Truths often spread like this.
The Let Them Theory is told simply and in easy language. Like her 5-4-3-2-1 practice that went viral, Robbins decision to "let them" arrived in an "aha" moment. Before she decided to share this idea in a book, she spent time looking at current research to understand why this idea worked so well. In the book, however, she doesn't dive deep into the science. Instead she shares clear examples from her life.
What takes this book into new territory is the addition of "let me." Changing "let them" into a "let-them/let-me" equation is a one two punch that keeps you from getting stuck and focused on the negatives. It empowers you to take control and move forward. A simple example would be if you are working in a frustrating job with a terrible boss who won't promote you or give you raises. Your "let them" could be to accept you can't change your boss. A "let me" option might be to keep working hard while searching for a better job with a more positive atmosphere.
If you're looking for a deep dive into science, this isn't it. The Let Them Theory presents these ideas in a way that is easily accessible to all readers. It also includes suggestions on how to incorporate these ideas into your daily life.
