And Yet, Here I Am
by Marilyn R Wilson

The tides have been ebbing
Dark ages rise again
Rights disappearing
And yet, here I am.

Women die miscarrying
No doctor if unwed.
Voting rights challenged
And yet, here I am.

Health support cancelled
Men and women both damned
Elders' wisdom discounted
And yet, here I am.

Tyranny descends darkly
Democracy harshly slammed
Speaking out penalized
And yet here I am.

My voice can't be muted
Nor decent women and men
Revenge might rain on us
And yet, here I am.

Freedom in the balance
I defy with voice and pen
Fatigue, despair threatens
And yet, here I am.

And yet, here I am......
