I Wish You Well
by Marilyn R, Wilson
Roots bound together
Soul mates though lifetimes
Cosmically connected
I thought for eternity.
The change came slowly
First our roots unwound
Then a crack became a chasm
The change came slowly
First our roots unwound
Then a crack became a chasm
Our together joy faded and grayed
We spoke less often
Instead of gushing forth
Words trickled out and died
Confused and sad, we cried.
Relentlessly driven
Indifferent directions
We bravely fought the tide
But it was a losing battle
One day came acceptance
Indifferent directions
We bravely fought the tide
But it was a losing battle
One day came acceptance
We drifted with the current
That swept us relentlessly apart
Further, further, further
As the distance grew
We quickly glanced back
Hoping to catch one last smile
As the distance grew
We quickly glanced back
Hoping to catch one last smile
Hoping for one last wave
No matter the loss I know
No matter the loss I know
I will see you again
If not in this lifetime
If not in this lifetime
Then the next or the next
I cannot fill the empty space
I cannot fill the empty space
That you used to fill.
But know I still hold you close
And I still wish you well.
