Poetry - the pebbled beach

the pebbled beach
by marilyn r. wilson

grey clouds hang heavy
angry, threatening
bent over, i inch slowly
along the pebbled beach
crushed by their burden

seeking, seeking for
what i have misplaced
wisdom that guided
filled me with purpose
passion, great joy

magic
        muse
              motivation
                     miracles
                            momentum

an unusual texture
a multi-layered hue
my hand reaches out
fingers gently touch
lifting the pebble, turning

smooth, round
       flat, thin
            solid, veined
                  clean, moss-covered
                         petite, bloated
                                dull, shiny

a sign escapes
no treasures hidden here
on to the next, and the next
will i ever find them
directionless I wander

inching ever forward
pebble after pebble
seeking desperately
on a cold beach
under dark grey skies
