Poetry - I Know You, and Yet....

I know you and yet....
by Marilyn R. Wilson

From the first time we chatted
I felt I knew you, although not the details.
There was a feeling of lifetimes together,
Of lesson learned, experiences shared.
The energy of our meeting was powerful,
And intense, and joyous, and overwhelming

I knew you from the first moment, but
With the passing of years, and then decades,
I began to discover your multitude within.
Together we shared life's roller coaster ride -
Tragedies, successes and playful moments.
And each exposed a new facet of your soul.

The lens shifted, hearts' doors opened wider.
Conversations grew deeper and impassioned.
We embraced each other, loved unconditionally
Stood side by side to facing down dark storms
Bravely shouldered each other's heavy burdens
Cried buckets together, laughed until we cried

Our life journeys hold two distinct stories.
The journeys we share that bind us together
We breath the same air, walk the same paths
Know each other as we know ourselves, but
When apart, separate stories are written
The catalyst for lively sharing when next we meet.

I know you, and yet...
Our souls are deep as the ocean
And mysterious as the heavens
It will take a lifetime, maybe more
To discover all your secret thoughts
To know everything that is the sum of you.
