Synopsis -

The Owl’s Nest Couturier Shoppe is a huge success! Business is booming and Alexa Owl’s love life is heating up. Yet much to the seamstress’s dismay, Detective Bobby Starr is suddenly back again! Bobby isn’t your everyday gumshoe. Rather, he’s an angel who’s trying to earn a place in Saint Peter’s Guardian Angel Squad. He’s required to solve murders he had left unsettled from when he walked the earth in order to be accepted into this prestigious group. Of course, they will need to return to the time period in which the murder took place, and again, Alexa is a reluctant time traveler. Oh, and there’s one more little problem—this time, Bobby’s brought along a friend, Maxi Krogen, and she’s no angel!

Review -

What is a Cozy Mystery?  "It's a comfort read that leaves you satisfied and at one with the world, rather than scared to sleep alone with the lights out..," an easy reading mystery to enjoy without the profanity and violence often found in this genre. While the author first wrote more traditional murder/suspense novels, in 2014 she moved into Cozy Mysteries and now has over 10 titles published. Maxed out is her latest.

As this is book 2, I really recommend you start at the beginning of the series with Back to the Burgh and Beyond. In fact I noticed she is offering a Kindle 2-pack on Amazon with both titles. While it's a fun read regardless, the first book lays out who Alexa Owl is at this point in her life and why she is travelling in time with ghost Detective Bobby Starr to solve old mysteries, and that makes reading book 2 even more enjoyable.

There are similarities with the first book - ghost Bobby Starr needing help, a murder to solve in the past and a ghost animal woven into the storyline - this time St. Peter has thrown them a twist, Maxi Krogen, a very self-centered and difficult ghost.  As Starr and Owl try to solve the question of whether she really committed murder, she throws roadblocks in their way.  And the question arises, if they prove her innocent they will change the past as that is not allowed. So the question becomes, what is the truth they are trying to uncover? St. Peter has given them a hint, but it is cryptic to say the least.

Maxed Out is an easy, fun read that will probably find it's biggest readership in the tween/teen/early adult market, but can be enjoyed by anyone who loves to relax with an book that asks them to help solve a mystery while offering a touch of humor.

McDonald, to write children’s books for her grandchildren. In 2016 she added the Fiona Quinn Mysteries. Presently, the Fiona Quinn Mysteries has nine books.
