The Halley's Casino trilogy has been described by many reviewers as witty and on the same level as The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy which has overwhlemed the author to say the least. Throw in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Dr.Who, The Stainless Steel Rat, Star Trek and you have Halley's Casino. The judges of the Worlds Best Story Competition in 2017 remarked that Halley's Casino would make a excellent Netflix series as reveiwers of the books have noted.

Review -
This is the 3rd book I have enjoyed in this humorous SciFi series by author Mark JG Fahey. While it is labeled Return Trip, the story is for the most part set on Earth which is encased in a protective bubble. Our evil protagonist has created an alternate timeline here where he rules the entire planet from Rome as emperor. Not aware of the bubble, he is on the cusp of launching out into space to try and rule all the worlds. If he escapes the bubble, the universe as we know it could be destroyed.
What I enjoyed about this book (and the series) is that touch of humor. From characters to situations, there is always something you can find to make you smile. There are darker events shared, but they are handled in a way that the story stays light. The book is an enjoyable read with a touch of the absurd dropped in here and there. Of the three I have read, this one probably the least funny overall, but it's still there and still a welcome addition.
The only problem I had was understanding how the intro chapter fit in. I suggest if it's been awhile since you've read book two, that you re-read it first. If not time, the rest of the story in Return Trip stands on it's own regardless. A fun and entertaining read.
