Review - 

As author Lauren Carr is one of my favorite authors, I am always watching diligently for new titles and am first in line to read them.  It's especially exciting when she launches another series. It means meeting new minted, intelligent, resourceful characters and almost-human pets sure to charm. The Prime Suspect is no exception.

Bryce Greyson is the ultimate prime suspect. Both a university room mate and her husband were murdered. The odds she was involved are statistically high.  The fact she might be innocent is irrelevant to the police who have zeroed in on her alone, and are working hard to back up their decision with evidence. A chance meeting with Sam MacKade at soccer practice offers her a drop of hope.

MacKade is a former police officer who had to retire after taking a bullet to his knee.  He has serious trust issues when it comes to people. Other than his ex-wife and daughter, his closest connections are with his two dogs - both super smart and his only backup when he is working a case.  While hesitant, he decides to take on Greyson's case.  However, someone is manipulating the police and media behind the scenes to convict Greyson in the court of public opinion.

The plot is twisted. The characters are full of depth, with many hiding secrets. Mackade's two dogs and Greyson's cat are not only smart, but have attitude with a capital A.  I don't want to spoil anything, so all I am going to say is the cat is the hero who deals with one personal threat.

Another great cozy mystery by author Lauren Carr. Hopefully it's not too long before book two in this new series.
