"Wearing the beauty of the things that flow and a momentary sparkle."

The brand name "Mizuid" is a fusion of the designer's name "Mizuha" and the word "fluid". The designer designs clothes inspired by photographs taken by herself. What we want to deliver are clothes that let you feel the beauty of time, wind, water, light and other flowing things, and a world that moves our hearts beyond words. Above all, we aim to create clothes that enable the people wearing such clothes themselves to recognize their own beauty as the only piece of art in this world and to have confidence in themselves.

Mizuid was launched in women's wear for Autumn/Winter 2022 season and has released three collections until now. The concept of the first collection was "The Journey in Blue Hour". The collection was developed with two types of original print fabrics as key elements, inspired by the special time just after the sun sets, when the few remaining sunsets and the deep blue sky mix together.

The theme of the second collection, SS23, was "Wavering but Unwavering”. The collection overlapped the shimmering of water and light with the figure of a wandering, yet flexible life. We tried to create mannish yet elegant styles that could be enjoyed by all generations. And this year at AW23, we tried our first unisex collection, “Dynamism in Silence”. Inspired by the trees standing dignified in the quiet forest in the deepening season, we offered mode styles that transcend gender and age.

The upcoming SS24 concept is "Engraved Time with the Sea Breeze". Feel this world where time and people's memories, though fading, are still being engraved.
Mizuid-japan-fashionPlease share a bit about your journey to embrace fashion design as a career.

I started my career as a fashion designer in the AW2022 season. Originally, I had a career away from the fashion industry. I studied agriculture in university, then joined an advertising company, where I still work as a planner. I love people, animals, and nature on earth. I used to vaguely want to do something useful for them, but gradually I became more and more strongly interested in doing work that would more directly utilize my sensibilities to positively influence people's emotions.

The career of a fashion designer is a combination of many things for me, including the various experiences and sensations I have cultivated and my simple love of clothes. And this is also a parallel challenge for me, who works at an advertising company connecting people with products and services, to see what I can individually deliver to the world.

How did you learn your skills?

I went to Vantan Design Institute in Tokyo for a year on weekends to learn the basics of fashion design. After that, I learned a lot on my own to launch the brand.

Who are you as a designer? Aesthetic? Customer? Brand?

I am a designer who captures the beauty of things that flow in this world and a momentary sparkle into my clothes. I named my brand "Mizuid" as a fusion of the designer's name "Mizuha" and "fluid". I want to incorporate into my designs an awareness of a variety of things, from the visible, like water and light, to things that can be perceived with the senses, like time, wind, and temperature. And these, I believe, are also somewhere in every person's memory and have the power to move the heart beyond words.

My hope is that the people who wear my clothes will recognize their own beauty as the only piece of art in the world and feel confident in themselves. In addition, I hope to make the wearer's time comfortable and enjoyable by adding a bit of playfulness.

What comes easiest for you as a designer? What is hardest?

Coming up with a concept for a collection is relatively easy for me. As long as I can be moved by the many things in this world, I will be able to continue to design clothes that reflect the concept.

What I always feel hard to do is to decide on the size range of clothes so that more people can wear them. Each person's body shape is truly unique, but I want to make clothes that will please as many people as possible. With ready-to-wear, I am always bothered by inevitably having to narrow down the range of sizes.

Where do you find inspiration for new collections? How important is color to your design process?

I usually create my collections inspired by photographs I have taken myself in the past. Sometimes it is one photo, sometimes it is inspired by multiple photos. I come up with my concept by overlapping not only just the view in the photo, but also the temperature, wind, and various sensations I felt when I took the picture, as well as the emotions and lives of the people. That is why "color" is very important in my collection, as it evokes the scene. I want to create clothes that allow the people who wear them to feel the concept and enrich their feelings.

Readers would love to know more about the current collection you showed at Vancouver Fashion Week.

The concept of Mizuid's SS24 is "Engraved Time with the Sea Breeze". It is inspired by the beautiful and mysterious patterns of geological strata that have formed on the coast over a long period of time. The collection is created with the image of time and people's thoughts and feelings flowing and fading, but still being engraved. The overall color is associated with a coastal landscape, and the composition is a subtle balance of tasteful textured natural materials and shiny synthetic fiber materials. The organdy fabric printed with this season's new original pattern is also noteworthy.

Do you have a favorite look in this collection?

It is very difficult to choose one favorite. Every piece has a point that I love. I have focused on the overlapping of fabrics, switching, and the balance of exquisite asymmetrical lines in each item

Where can readers purchase your designs?

Currently, online sales and occasional pop-up stores are available only in Japan. I would like to consider selling overseas in the future.
