We Come Together
By Marilyn R. Wilson

Ujamaa!
Cooperative economics.
We come together as a village
To raise everyone up equally.
Goosebumps burst forth.
My heart skips a beat.

Why?
In a place of calm
In a place of solitude
I shut the world out and
Sink into my soul's depths
And utter the word - Ujamaa.

A spark.
Slowly igniting
Then building steadily
Until a fire burns through me,
Cleansing what no longer serves.
Wisdom fills the emptiness.

Our journey.
Joining hands and hearts
We soar upward as one.
No competition, no lack.
There is only abundance
There is only love.

Taking turns.
I rise upward and then
Reach back to my village.
Hands joined - I raise them.
Then another soars upward and
Reaches back to do the same.

Ujamaa!
We journey journey together.
Each taking their turn.
Leading and being lead.
Raising others, then being raised.
No one is left behind.
