Interview (2021) & New Collection (2025) -
Please share a bit about your journey to choose a career in fashion? Where did you choose to study or, if self taught, how did you gain your skills?
For Vancouver Fashion Week in April 2021, I will present the first collection of Blue Tamburin, my newly launched social impact fashion brand.
What inspired you to launch your own label and why did you decide to name it Bleu Tamburin? What has been your highest, happiest moment since launching your line?
Blue Tamburin started with the question above. The team at Blue Tamburin wanted to present a kind of fashion with the message of ‘Against Every Discrimination’. They wanted to infuse the fashion design with a beautiful social mind.
The word ‘Blue’ has a dual meaning of being bright and refreshing, and at the same time being gloomy and depressed. ‘Tamburin (tambourine)’ is a musical instrument that anyone can easily play and that can entertain anyone. Both meanings combined are chosen to best present what our company wants to inspire in the lines of collection. Blue Tamburin ambitiously intends to be the most beautiful and vibrant brand for those who wear its clothes.
I am happiest in this moment waiting for the launch of BlueTamburin through the world-class fashion festival, Vancouver Fashion Week.
How would you describe your label? What is the aesthetic? Who is the customer you design for?
Can you share something about the new SS26 Collection you'll be showing casing at Vancouver Fashion Week? What was the inspiration? What fabrics and palette did you use?
Blue Tamburin will present a collection that incorporates personal uniqueness, self-expression, freedom and boldness that all harmonizes with social formality. SS26 VFW is garnering significant attention as its first commercial launch show in four years. This collection brings the military officer to the commercial market. The persona embodies honor, respect, gentleness, wit, strength, and elegance, embodying the military officer's character through everyday fashion. This collection, comprised of 17 pieces, was praised for its elegant interpretation of military style.
Chief Creative Officer, Bomin Kim, said, "There are clothes that compel you to choose the arduous path of justice, and those that inspire you to sacrifice your life to uphold the honor and promise of that uniform. That's the military uniform." She added, '"I wanted to present clothes with that same power. The moment you wear BLUETAMBURIN, you'll feel beauty and courage.
The brand will also offer an XR (extended reality) fashion show during VFW. This virtual fashion show offered designers and brands a way to clearly express their collection's identity without the constraints of time and space. It is also praised for providing galleries with an additional layer of enjoyment during the fashion show.
BLUETAMBURIN has consistently challenged itself with new ways to engage with and enjoy fashion, such as by unveiling a fashion NFT trading system at New York Fashion Week for SS22.
