In 2020, I ran across a recipes for a cocktail created in honor of Pantone's Color of the Year - Classic Blue. There actually turned out to be several created, but the one using a bluish Empress Gin and a specially formulated Blue Tea was my favorite. However, when my son-in-law tasted it, he adjusted the ingredients just a bit and I loved it even more. I dubbed it The 2020 Pantone Classic Cocktail A La Alex!
With all going on in the last few years, I forgot about this annual color naming. Then yesterday it came to mind. We had a few couples in our strata coming over on the 29th to have an early NYE drink together. I decided I needed something quick and easy that fit the color for 2024 - Peach Fuzz. A Google search offered tons of options but only one fit the quick and easy, last minute creation - a Peach Fuzz Wine Smoothie.
The recipe originally only had two ingredients - Pinot Grigio wine and frozen peaches. I reached out to my son in law who always helps me with fine tuning cocktail recipes and asked if he thought the addition of some Cointreau would be okay. Would it perhaps up the flavor notes. He gave the idea a big thumbs up.
Below is the recipe I used. It makes 4 - 6 drinks depending on size. The only note of importance is be sure you get the frozen peaches totally pulverized into a slushy consistency. While the mixture looked okay in my blender, there were tiny chunks of peach in the drinks that distracted. It's a big amount to puree fully, so unless you have a really fabulous blender, it might work better to process it in two smaller batches.
We all enjoyed our smoothies and toasted merrily. This isn't the most incredible cocktail in terms of flavor notes, but it is a lovely drink to share and a great nod to the Pantone's 2024 color of the year. Enjoy!
